1. Adaptive systems for the dynamics recognition.
One of the greatest challenges of science is to understand the functioning of the brain. Neural networks grasp some important aspects of the functioning principles of the brain. However, we are far from a comprehensive model of the brain. Image and pattern recognition bia neural networks is meanwhile applied in many fields from robotics to automization. We currently work on the modeling of adaptive systems for dynamics recognition. These models are capable to simulate. We hope to approach the simulation capability of the brain with our developments.
Part of this project is the development of an adaptive interface for the search of images. "EyeVisionBot" analyses the the searching behavior of the individuell users through eye tracking and optimizes the image search to the most likely desired categories. Project parter is the "Media Art Net". Since Sept. 2004 EyeVisionBot can be seen an used in the ZKM Media Museum. Also see the open source client "openbaar" for the GIFT server (Gnu Image Finding Tool). The project "EyeVisionBot" (Demo movie: ca 90 MB avi-file) has been presented from June 18-20, 2004 within the scope of Karlsruhe's birthday celebration. On June 9, 2005 the projekt "EyeVisionBot" won the 7th price of the doIT Software Award.

A brief and plain introduction of the task.

4. Molecular-Dynamics-Simulations II:
Frequently used standard algorithms for differential equations may induce dissipation which is not a feature of the investigated dynamical system but rather a feature of numerics. Such a numerical dissipation can lead to a corruption of the results. This essay deals with the necessity of a consistent algorithm for molecular dynamics simulations.

5. Pattern Formation in networks of coupled oscillators.
In 1954 Alan Turing published his famous work on the chemical mechanisms of morphogenesis. Small local perturbations in networks of coupled oscillators (nowadays called "Turing-Instabilities") can lead to the formation of coherent global patterns ...

6. Performative Science and operational Hermeneutics.
Performative science and operational hermeneutics is the ambitious project of deducing a cybernetic model of the cognitive process and the attempt to create optimized conditions for the sensual perception of scientific contents thereof.

7. Dynamical systems set to music.
Music is "symbolic dynamics". Chaos set to music can enhance our understanding of complex dynamics.

8. Entropy in Multi-Component Systems and Observer-Dependency.
In the framework of research of observer-dependency, the application of the entropy formula that was derived by H.H. Diebner in 1997 lead to interesting new conclusions. In a molecular dynamic simulation it was shown that when several systems are coupled, one of which may be regarded as the observer, an information transfer is combined with a physical action upon the observed system. The conclusions out of this research shall now be taken over into the bio-feedback experiments for research of perception. Supposedly, the simulation can be converted into a real observer situation.

9. Ways of neuron
From July - December 2004 the Institute of Basic Research hosted Andres Burbano as a visiting scientist. He worked on "Ways of neuron", an online scientific documentary about the impact of Neuroscience research and its relationship with the nature of the mind.
